Spring deep clean checklist for London flats — 2026 edition.
Spring is when London's hard water build-up, winter dust and radiator-baked grime show up most clearly. Here's a room-by-room deep clean checklist that takes a 2-bed flat from "looks ok" to "actually clean" — typically 5–7 hours done well.
Kitchen — 2 hours
- Empty fridge and freezer, defrost if needed, wipe shelves and seals
- Inside oven, including racks (soak in hot water + bicarbonate)
- Extractor hood and filter — degreaser, then rinse
- Inside cupboards and drawers — empty, vacuum crumbs, wipe
- Tile grout and splashback descale
- Sink, tap, plughole limescale
Bathroom — 1.5 hours per bathroom
- Descale taps, shower head, glass screen (white vinegar or commercial descaler)
- Re-grout if any tile lines have darkened (wash first, then assess)
- Replace silicone bead around bath/shower if mouldy — DIY-able with a £6 silicone gun
- Toilet hinges, base and behind
- Extractor fan grille
Living and bedrooms — 1.5 hours
- Move sofas and beds, vacuum underneath and along skirting
- Behind radiators — radiator brush + vacuum on low
- Light fittings, ceiling lamps (turn power off, dust glass, replace bulbs while you're up there)
- Window interiors, frames and sills (microfibre + dilute white vinegar = no streaks)
- Wash curtains or steam them in place
- Skirting boards — damp microfibre top to bottom
What's worth outsourcing
If you're short on time, the high-ROI tasks to outsource in London are: oven and fridge interior (2 hours of unpleasant work, professionals do it in 45 minutes), limescale (London water is hard — pros bring stronger products), after-radiator dust (specialist tools for cast-iron Victorian radiators in NW1, N16 and SW18 properties).
How long the whole thing takes
- Studio: 4 hours self / 3 hours professional
- 1-bed flat: 5–6 hours self / 4 hours professional
- 2-bed flat: 7–8 hours self / 5–6 hours professional
- 3-bed house: 10–12 hours self / 7–8 hours professional
